In 2001, Dollywood’s Splash Country opened its gates, promising a new world of fun and adventure for families. Among the excitement, there was one very special person who joined the water park’s first ticketing team and has continued for the next 25 summers – Mrs. Betty.
As Dollywood’s Splash Country gears up for it’s 25th season, we reflect on how impactful Mrs. Betty has been to our Splash Family. Mrs. Betty has become a beloved presence at the entrance. Even after all of these years, she remains the heart and soul of the ticketing building, embodying the warm, welcoming spirit that Dollywood’s Splash Country has always strived to provide our Guests.
Now, in 2025, Mrs. Betty is the only original employee still working with us from the opening team, and her dedication to the park is nothing short of remarkable. With a kind smile and a gentle laugh, she greets every guest with the same enthusiasm and care she did on day one. Her presence has become a cherished part of the park's history, and she continues to make each Guest feel at home.
For over two decades, Mrs. Betty has not only witnessed the growth of the park but has also become an integral part of its story. Her longevity is a testament to the love and loyalty she has for the Dollywood family and the countless memories she’s helped create for our Guests.
We’re proud to have Mrs. Betty as part of the Dollywood’s Splash Country family, and we’re grateful for the joy and warmth she brings to our park every day. Here's to many more years of memories, smiles, and sweet moments with the one and only Mrs. Betty!
What made you start working at Dollywood's Splash Country in 2001? - "My desire for a fun job after retirement; I saw a Job Fair ad and was apprehensive about applying because this was totally different from anything that I'd ever done. It also crossed my mind that 'what if I didn't like it - or, worse yet, they didn't like me'? I "bit the bullet" and this is my 25th season and it's been a fabulous, fulfilling, experience!"
What keeps you coming back each summer? - It is a privilege and pleasure to be part of such a fabulous Team and Park. I absolutely love my co-workers, interaction with guests, and aiding in their "Making Memories Worth Repeating". Our Front Gate Coordinator, Amanda George, is the most thoughtful, kind, caring, generous "Servant Leader" that any organization could ever employ; inaddition to Amanda, our Team Leads - Alberta and Tiffany - are of the same behavior. Of course, I always enjoy the rest of the Park personnel as I encounter them. These are fantastic qualities that keep me returning.
What is your favorite part of your job at DSC? - Again, as stated before, my co-workers and other Park personnel, interaction with guests; and, of course - Our Perks!
What are your hobbies? - I once did ceramics and money gifts; at this stage, my hobbies are spending time with my grandchildren and their activities.
We are so grateful for the many years of service Mrs. Betty has given us and it is so special that she has been at Dollywood’s Splash Country since Day 1! We love you, Mrs. Betty!
